KITCHEN AID K5SS - THERE IS NONE OTHER!

Jan 25 '00

I bake a lot - heavy cookie doughs, breads, etc. and for many years, I used the Sunbeam heavy duty mixer with a great deal of trouble. I then purchased the Kitchen Aid K5SS. This seemed to be the best for overall use in a home kitchen when I looked into the sizes/wattage available. It comes with a 5 quart stainless bowl and easily takes care of the doubling of average recipe heavy cookie doughs, quick breads, and cakes. I have never had it bulk down or strain whatsoever. The only problem that I have found is that when adding ingredients you have to lower the bowl and really slow the machine down to a stop. I did purchased the pouring shield but am not impressed with it because then you can't scrap the sides of the bowl down without taking it off. The whip attachment is wonderful for whipped cream and egg whites.

One of the greatest advantages that I have found is the ability to add to the machine - food grinder, pasta plates, slicer/shredder and more. It is quite easy to add the attachments and, if you think about it, quite a bit cheaper than purchasing all of those machines separately.

I recommend pricing the machine and attachments at several online/offline stores. I found the prices varied quite a lot. You can expect to pay approximately $250 for the basic machine but I truly believe that it is worth it!
