Beginners auto repir tool set

Feb 06 '00 (Updated Feb 07 '00)

Recently I was in the market to buy a "complete" set of tools to replace the mix matched set that I had been using to do basic automotive repairs. After shopping around and comparing the prices and warranties I noticed that they are all pretty much the same. The exception to the average was "Huskey". I was really interested in the "Craftsman" line when I noticed that they cost an average of $1.50 per tool when you buy them in a set. They "Huskey" line cost less than $1.00 per tool. I was looking mainly at the "200+ tool sets",this has the standard 1/4,3/8,and 1/2 inch drivers with the 6 point and 12 point sockets (deep well and short), as well as other "specialty" tools (torks, allen, phillps, and standard screwdriver bits and regular screwdrivers), and the common wrenches. All in both standard and metric. Huskey has a 254 piece mechanics tool set that was for sale at Home Depot for $199.00. This price blew away any thing that Sears had to offer with Craftsman sets. Both tool manufacturers have outstanding quality tools and they have a lifetime warranty for their products. This leaves the cost to consider. For the "backyard shadetree mechanic" that lives on a budget I cannot recommend anything better than the deal you get with Huskey and Home Depot.
