Buying a Refrigerator
Feb 09 '00 (Updated Jan 31 '06)
The Bottom Line Compare prices and make sure it has all the features you want. I like cabinet depth refrigerators so they don't stick out into the room.
I do all my research for items I am looking to purchase online. Sears.com was the best site found for a large variety of brands and ease of comparing features. I was never a Sears fan but they kept coming up in my appliance search so I decided to look. The site was very easy to navigate and I was able to click on all the features I wanted in a refrigerator.
It narrowed my choice down to several models. The site includes prices, features and pictures. Although the site did not include the refrigerator I purchased, the search gave me the specs on various Brands which met this criteria. Be sure to actually go to a store and look at the refrigerator before you purchase it.
I purchased my last refrigerator, a GE Monogram online and saved a bundle. But be careful to check out the online stores customer service record.
*****Before you purchase any appliance make sure you know the date it was manufactured. All appliances are coded with the date manufactured. I learned this the hard way. I once purchased a refrigerator that was a floor model and as soon as it was delivered needed repair. The Manufacturer said it was not under warranty because it was 4 years old; according to the serial number I had given them. Lucky for me that I had filed the receipt showing it had just been purchased.*****
