What to look for in a set of knives

There are many things that you need to look for in a set of knives. What many people are looking for is the best buy for their money. They want knives that are going to last a long time. If you are looking for the best set of knives out there, buy CUTCO. They are the best out there. Check out my review of their best set of knives. I comment on why they are the best. But I will talk about what you need to look at in a good set of knives.
One of the important things about a set of knives is the handles. There are a variety of handles out there. You can buy knives with plastic, hardened plastic, or wooden handles. The best type of handle out there is a strong plastic handle. These hold the blades in the handle for a longer period of time, and they don't warp. With a wooden handle, after a while they warp and the blade becomes lose from the handle because of being washed. So my recommendation is to chose a set of knives with a handle made of strong, durable plastic.
Another important part of knives that you need to look at is the rivets. Many of you don't know these are, but I will explain what they are and how they important they are. Rivets are the pieces of metal that hold the handle and blade together. If you look at knife with a wooden handle, you will notice that there are circular pieces of metal flush with the handle. Those are the rivets. Knife companies use these to hold the blade and handle together. You will often see 2 or 3 rivets in a knife, depending on the quality of the company. Three rivets are generally better than 2. But the important part about rivets are what they are made of. You will see many companies use copper rivets. The bad thing about these are after a while they expand, causing the handle to crack. And the other type of rivets that you will see are made of silver. The bad thing about these are that they contract, which causes the blade to become loose from the handle. The best rivets that you will find out there are a composite of nickel and silver. This allows the handle to stay in tact with the blade without ever expanding or contracting. You will only find these type of rivets in CUTCO.
The other part of the knife that you need to look at is the material the blade is made of and it's design. You will see many set of knives that have just straight blades. These are just really sorry knives. But you think "But they give us a knife sharpener to sharpen the knives whenever they are dull." And that's what you get; you get to sharpen your knives whenever they are dull. And believe me, they will get dull every time that you want to use them. And then you will see other knives that have a special blade designs that advertise "this is the only that you will ever need." Don't buy into this. These knives will only be good for a period of time. They will not do all of the things that you need and won't last as long as you want. The other part about the blade is the material of them. Most knives that are sold are made of of steel or carbon steel. The bad part of this is that they will get rusty after a while. Unless you want to cut your sandwich with a rusty knife, then don't buy knives with this material. The material that you want to buy is surgical steel. If you think that there are no companies that sell this material, then you are sadly mistaken. CUTCO only uses surgical steel in their blades. If you don't know what surgical steel is, it's ok; surgical steel is the material that doctors and dentists use. What you want is a good set of knives with a good blade design and made of good material.
Another part that you will generally see with a set of knives is the wood block; this is what they keep the knives in. The part that you need to look at in the wood block is the way the slots in the blade are. You need to get a wood block that has slots that are horizontal. A wood block with vertical slots could damage your blades because they dull the edge of the knives.
Well, if you are unexperienced in knife buying I hope that this reviewed helped you in making your decision. What you will find with knives is that many families go out and buy a set of knives every 2 or 3 years; and only spend about $150 or $200. If you want to not worry about buying a set of knives EVER AGAIN after your first set, BUY CUTCO. These are the best set of knives that you will ever find out there.
