Do You Want to Save Money on Dry Cleaning?
by zoeyburger | Aug 02 '00
(This is not about buying a washer , it is about using a washer to care for dry clean items)

For the past 5 years I have worked in the dry cleaning industry. For three years now, my job has been to do all the cleaning. I do all the dry...

I speak from having over 7 years experience selling luxury home textiles, specifically Hungarian Down Comforters. Your information does have some valid points.. but some are just totally incorrect and need to be addressed ASAP!
Feel free to contact me. Or just review my webpage dedicated to this topic:

This is the definitive guide to washing a down comforter.

I hope that not alot of people took your advice on using hot water, or a local laundry mat... as people are going to be VERY UPSET with the results.

Myths about Dry Cleaning debunked:
There are comforter companies out there that are claiming that the chemicals used in professional dry cleaning could damage the natural properties of the down. That is not true!
What they are really telling you is that the chemicals will damage the FEATHERs not the down.
Feathers have quills, chemicals do damage to this, and even could change the color of the quill... thats why you start to see the "shadows" of quills after it is dry cleaned a few times. Comforters that consist of less than 80% down, you will notice the feather quills start to appear after a few washes. Do you have a comforters of 95% Feathers 5% down... thats a scary thought? Add in a low thread count product, and your down comforter wont last very long at all. Its time to upgrade that comforter.

I laughed out loud at the "clean shoe please." I am in the process of training my 6 & 8 year old daughters and middle-aged husband to assist in domestic chores and cannot believe how often I have had to utter such obvious comments to the inexperienced.

Thank you for the good advice. Since I have goose down comforters [washable white covers] and with the adoption of the second daughter have just acquired another.

You will be saving me a mint. And you gave me a lesson in how to train the inexperienced in doing tasks. I am a double winner today.

Thanks for the disclaimer at the top about what this is. Works for me, but you will probably garnish Recommended from Advisors.

For the second review you helped many people out with these.

I wanted to share that I am allergic to down due to asthma, and use the covers for the bedding as well.
The problem I have is the dryer chews up my mattress pads. The nice thick ones that are more expensive do not survive a dry, while the thinner ones do.

So now I put on light for a few minutes only and take out. Same for the bed ruffle too. I have those crinkled and it is hard to fix them.

Not sure what part of the country you are in, but I am in CA and it is far cheaper to have dry cleaning service here at the numerous pay in advance next day services. IN NJ a suit would run $15 and take three days.

When I lived in FL there was a delivery service van that would drop off your orders.

Welcome to epinions, will be stopping back. Bonnie
