The author has done a good job of covering most of the practical details that I am encountering in my search for a replacement washing machine. I wish there were a little more information on the significance or value of the power (horsepower) of the machine's motor. In the top-loading machines that I've researched, some are 1/3 hp, some are 1/2 hp; and many don't/won't list their hp!

I had never contemplated the complexities of a clothes-washer. I may not buy an appliance in the near future, but I will surely consult your checklist when the time comes.
