I've used everything from Prell, to L'Oreal, Pantene, Herbal Essence and Joy dishwashing detergent on my hair. Somehow, no thanks to me, I still have hair. Unfashionably long, it also offers a glimpse into that place in fashion history I was frozen. Um, 1970's David Cassidy feathered shag on the top and sides, thank you!
Of all the various and sundry products I have tried, by far, I most prefer Redmond Product's Aussie formulations. I rotate between a variety of shampoos and conditioners and will give a little epinion on each.
THE SHAMPOOS
The classic of the line, Mega Shampoo, has recently been reformulated. Although not a prime consideration, I definitely loved their former, papaya fragrance, over the newer floral scent. This is a basic shampoo, readily available in drug stores and supermarkets. The pH is 6.0, which means it is a fair latherer, but even more importantly, is less likely to strip your hair of that important acid mantle. I shampoo my hair every other day, and I will use this shampoo 60% of the time.
My alternate Aussie shampoo, is the wonderfully fragrant Citrifier, with Australian sweet orange peel and eucalyptus. It has the ability to really clean your hair, and is my first choice for those who have oily or limp hair. Mine is very thick, coarse, oily and colored, so I use this shampoo about 20% of the time. It has the ability to remove dulling build-up from things like conditioner, (which by the way tends to make your hair limp, and actually rather dull, due to the waxy build-up).
CONDITIONING PRODUCTS
My everyday conditioner is the aptly named Instant Daily Conditioner. It is a light conditioner which detangles and provides added moisture. It does not make the hair too oily. Special ingredients include sea kelp and orange roughy oil. A moisture-retaining addition, well known to American Indians, urea, is also included. Luckily for us, this product has a clean, faintly citrus aroma.
For more intensive conditioning, about once each four shampoos, (and after using the Citrifier shampoo), I recommend 3 Minute Miracle. If my hair was just oily, I wouldn't need this product, but since my scalp is oily, and due to chemical processing, my hair is dry, I really do. Without surprise, I notice on the label, this product is recommended for colored or permed hair. Rinsing thoroughly is important here!
The last product, offers just a touch of conditioning, but is great for those on the run, or people who prefer a spray-on product. Aussie Hair Insurance detangles, conditions and provides a measure of protection if you use heat in the form of blow dryers or curling irons. If I am travelling, and I know my hair will become dirty more often, I like to use the Mega Shampoo and just a couple spritzes of this spray for comb through. My hair stays clean longer, without that dreaded flat look!
Redmond Products are cruelty-free, meaning not tested on laboratory animals. This is important to me. Prices are fair, and it is possible to find combo-packs of say the Mega shampoo with a complimentary bottle of Instant Daily Conditioner. I also appreciate being able to pick up hair care products when I do other shopping.
