Under one circumstance....maybe

I am a an appliance service technician and have been for over twenty years, I own my own repair shop and we do no work under extended service contracts so it seems funny for me to say...."maybe"

I whole-hearted believe that purchasing an extended warranty for your major appliance is usually tossing your money out the window, there may be an instance where it is not.

If you have had many problems with your appliance under the first year manufacturers warranty, it may be worthwhile to extend it for one more year. There are lemons in everything, however the vast majority of the time your major appliance will run trouble free for several years past the manufacturers warranty. An extended warranty is just a waste of money in most cases.

My main advice: Send in your warranty registration card when you buy your appliance, DO NOT purchase the contract at the time of your original purchase. If you do send in your warranty card, most manufacturers will send you an opportunity near the expiration of your manufacturers included warranty (usually one year parts and labor) to purchase their extended contract. (It is a major profit center for them) If you have had constant trouble during the regular warranty this may be a wise purchase.

This is the ONLY circumstance where it might be.
