Knock on Wood

The only appliances I have purchased a warranty on are my home computer and my Digital Satellite System. So far the computer has stayed healthy but the DSS warranty has come in handy.
About a year after we bought the DSS (and bought the two year warranty) we had a power surge and it totally fried our receiver. Circuit City took the receiver and fixed it at no charge (actually replaced it with a new one). If we hadn't had the warranty it would have cost us as much as we originally paid for the whole set-up.
Like most of the other reviewers have mentioned do your homework on the appliance you are going to buy. We did a bit of research on Digital Satellite Systems and discovered that they are very power-surge sensitive and we knew that the warranty covered power surges so the decision was an easy one. But we now have the DSS hooked up to a heavy duty surge protector, even though we have the warranty I don't want to wait two weeks to have it fixed again.
