Cutco in the days of single items not sets.

Pros:They look nice and do cut as promised...27 years later
Cons:Price then and no price listing now.
I purchased a set of Cutco steak knives when you bought one type of a knife at a time or a set of kitchen knives. You got one type of handle and they came in a beautiful wooden box lined with red velvet. Did I mention the price yet?
Mine are a nice red-brown marble swirl plastic. Don't get me wrong...it is a fancy plastic to look like wood from a distance. And they do at 10 feet or more. It's not wood that goes moldy over time. My knives are over 25 years old and have been used only on very special occasions. I don't mean Christmas or Easter either.
I remember when I order them...you didn't see the actual knife you saw pictures. So when my order came in...needless to say I was very upset to find plastic handles. I wouldn't bring them out because I was so embarrassed at the price I paid for plastic handles. They did cut steak as if it was a marshmallow. But somehow I couldn't get over the price and the plastic handles.
27 years later and they still look mint condition. The box and the velvet too. They might have been used 5 times in 27 years. I recommend the knives but not the price. They still look cheap today. I don't know what they cost today but 27 years ago I paid over $50. If it wasn't the fact that the sales person was a close friend...I would have sent them back. You didn't pay that kind of money for plastic back then and I would not today.
As far as the blade itself...they have not tarnished in any way nor has just sitting around made them dull. They are in mint condition. For the money back then..no I would not buy them again. Today...I checked their site, there are no prices listed and you can not buy them anywhere...you have to chase somebody down.
