| woodyc's Full Review: KitchenAid Slide-In Gas Range |
In the last 3 years I have purchased two KitchenAid slide-in gas ranges for two separate homes. In my opinion, for a price below the commercial ranges, and above the standard low end offerings, a quality range with many features can be had. I found the quality to be superior to similarly priced GE offerings, and less expensive than the similar features and quality found in the Jenn-Air and Thermador models.
There are a few "features" which must be considered when buying this product. First, I found it to not be exactly a "slide in" range. Most slide-in ranges require a cabinetry extension on the lower front, giving them a more cabinetry feel. This unit sits like a freestanding with a slide-in surface. I found it very easy to modify the space of a freestanding for this unit due to it's base. A definite plus if you are doing a simple replacement of a freestanding unit.
Second, the highest BTU output on the burners does not provide as much heat as other units. This can be annoying if you are trying to boil huge pots of water. It can take longer.
A few other nice features are the convection oven option, and the ranges ability to relight a blown out flame automatically. Overall I highly recommend this unit for any demanding cook with a budget that cannot afford a commercial grade unit.
