GONNA GET LUCKY? DON'T FORGET THE GOO!

Nov 12 '00

I don’t have to point out the obvious to most women: shaving your legs is a big pain in the a r s e. It’s time consuming and even the tiniest knick can feel like someone just cracked your rib cage for open heart surgery.

Well then kellydeal, why not move to Europe or something? Love it or leave it, baby.

It’s just not that easy. Thanks to the United States– European women are shaving more than ever. Plus, I can think of a million other reasons to be an ex-patriot. I have nothing against women shaving their legs, arm pits - let ‘em shave off their eyebrows if they want. – I am just going to point out disposable lotion dispensing razors can be the best product to use when giving in to this necessary evil. Anyway, without getting into the politics of the matter…

Is that a winter coat you’re growing there, Ms. Deal?

This is where you learn more than you ever wanted to know about kellydeal. Leg shaving is not one of my top priorities in the wintertime. My use of disposable razors dwindles down to sometimes a mere once a week. Thanks to blistering cold Midwestern winters, I like to think of the months of late October through early March as a God given “get out of jail free” card from this tedious ritual. I have no idea how those warm-climate women make it through an entire year of short skirt and short shorts weather – God Bless ‘Em - but when the stubble runs rampant, or I know I just might get lucky - I head for one of the good, matching bra and panty sets and my disposable razors.

Uum, thanks for sharing, kellydeal, but WHY should I use disposable razors?

Hey, you can do what you want – but for almost 12 years I’ve been brandishing these little plastic pink be-daisied handled razors in the shower and they’ve never let me down. Sure, I’ve fiddled around with a few other brands. I’ve dabbled in the electric razor arena, quickly waned on waxing and I even gave into the torturous Epilady episode that swept the nation in the late 80’s. But I am here to say, nothing is as quick, relatively painless and easy as a few licks on the legs with a disposable razor. There are no masochistic appointments to keep and no machinery to maneuver.

But what about those little plastic lotion dispensing strippy thing-a-ma-bobs on the razors? Do they really help or am I just paying a nickel more for unnecessary goo?

I hate nothing more than to see my friends shell out a little extra cash for unnecessary goo. So to answer honestly – yes. And, err… no.

Let me ask you this: are you just gonna lather up your limbs with, say, Dial soap, and go at it with one of those single blade disposable razors? Yes? Well then, your skin will probably suffer, whether you consider it sensitive or not. What you choose to lather with can ultimately decided whether or not you’ll get those tiny bumps and knicks and cuts and things – moisturizing strip or not. If you use one of those lotiony moisturizing gels and/or cremes (generally seen packaged with some sort of pastel shower poof) you should be fine. At that time any conditioning goo on the actual razor will only be redundant. But, if you’re on the road and you don’t want to pack a million different moisturizers and you’re stuck with hotel soap, I suggest you take along a razor with a little goo strip to get you through the tough times. They will provide you with at least some of the soothing bump preventing moisturizing you may need in a pinch.

So kellydeal, if it’s such a pain in the a r s e, why bother at all?

Hey, I may complain about the tough times, but I would like to say (at the risk of sounding like Cosmo fluff) sometimes when it’s all said and done… nothing feels as sexy as clean and smooth legs against fresh sheets and knowing you didn’t pull out the good bra and panties for nothin’.
