Ah, modern technology at its' best! If you're looking for a dishwasher, look no further.
About a month ago, we decided to purchase a new dishwasher after the old one, which was also a Kenmore, circa 1981, tried pumping a broken bit of cornholder, and proceeded to self-destruct. This being its' third strike, we called it out, and it was history. So, shopping we went. We let all the salespeople from all the appliance stores give us their spiel. We learned one thing from the very start; appliance salespeople know absolutely nothing about dishwashers. They'd much rather be selling you the hot tub on the other end of the store. I learned more about dishwashers reading the cardboard promotionals on top of the machines.
After hitting all of the appliance stores, we came up with 2 choices; the Kenmore and the Bosch.
THE BOSCH
A truly new approach to getting dried, hardened eggs off of your cutlery. It's pull-out design and arrangement of water jets was very impressive. It looked like it would clean the black off of the eight-ball, but at $700 and change, it was a bit spendy. It also only came in Stainless steel. Now, I'm a Stainless kind of guy, but a quick walk around the appliance store to see what it would cost to make all the rest of the appliances match (and they HAVE to match, just ask my wife) quickly nixed that idea. Then came the mega Kenmore.
THE KENMORE
At $470 bucks, it was also on the pricey side, but being the primary operator of this piece of equipment, I wanted one that would clean the dishes. What's the point of washing the dishes before they go in the dishwasher? It came an extra hot water cycle, and something called a 'Sani-Rinse'. It also has all kinds of energy saving options. So, we got the Kenmore.
After installing the unit myself, with about $25 in plumbing parts, and a six pack of Becks, we were ready to spool this baby up. I took the nastiest things I could find (being without a dishwasher for a week, this wasn't hard), and then overloaded the machine. I set it on max wash, with all the bells and whistles, and let it rip. I was impressed. Over the last month, I've really worked the hell out of this machine, and it does not miss a beat. It even did a good job on the gas barbecue grill.
So, if you're looking for a dishwasher that gets the job done, this is the puppy for you. Not only does it do the dishes right from the table, with a fast scrape, but it's really quiet about it, too. The neighbors used to complain when we ran the old one, with this one, if you're not in the kitchen, you don't hear it.
