| menomonee1's Full Review: Hoover F6024 SteamVac WidePath Upright Vacuum |
The cat just threw up another hair ball, and the kid tipped a glass of grape drink on the carpet. Just another day being a parent. So how do you keep your carpets looking good and have children and pets? For my wife and I that meant renting a steam cleaner at the local grocery store once a month at a cost of $50.00. But what about those bad spills that need to be cleaned up right away. So we went to the local Wal-Mart and purchased the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020.
The selling point for us on purchasing the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 was the 6 rotating brushes. Our thought was that the way dirt was ground into the carpet, this was going to break loose the most amount of dirt and give us the best clean. We also liked the fact that it came with attachments to clean stairs and furniture. In our house, the stairs always looked the worst.
Putting the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 together was very simple to accomplish. Snap a few pieces together, screw in a few nuts and bolts, and we were ready to go. Then all we had to do was add the detergent and hot tap water to the removable holding tank, plug in the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 and we were on our way to cleaner carpets. Adding the right amount of detergent was made simple with the cap to the holding tank also being a measuring cup.
Once you are up and running, using the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 is just like using a vacuum cleaner. The only difference is that you have to hold down a button to have the water spray out onto the carpet. The cleaning motion is the same. Back and fourth over the area you wish to clean.
When the holding tank runs out of water, that is also the time I would empty out the dirty water that it extracts. Lift a handle on this container and carry it to the sink to be emptied. I was amazed at just how much dirt was in this water after cleaning the carpet.
Once you are finished, the carpet will still be pretty damp. I just make sure everyone would stay off of it for about 2-3 hours and it was then dry. As for cleaning the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 when I was finished, all I had to do was rinse it off, pull any hair and debris off the cleaning brushes, and stick it in the closet till the next time I needed it.
Features
10-ft. attached hose with a powered hand tool that allowed me to clean the stairs and furniture with ease. The hand tool works the same as the main unit with a rotating brush. I found this very handy on the stairs, and have even used it once to clean the tub. It took off all the soap scum without scratching the surface of the tub.
Clean Surge button. This button for all I can tell just puts more detergent on the carpet for areas that are very dirty. I used it after my daughter tipped over a can of white paint onto the carpet. The Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 was able to pull all of the paint out of the carpet, but I had to go over the area at least a dozen times before it stopped pulling out paint.
The power cord in 30 feet allowing you to do several rooms without having to keep finding more power outlets. I found this to be a major blessing while working on the stairs. I was able to do all of them without having to plug in first at the top, and then at the bottom.
The only problem I have found so far with the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 is that now that I have had it for over a year, it does not seem to have the same pulling power to remove the cleaning water from the carpet. I have to go over the carpet several time to extract all the water. I have a feeling that one of the seals is no longer functioning properly and will be taking it to the Hoover repair shop to have it tuned up.
I would highly recommend this product to all families with children and pets. We all know that children spill drinks, and animal will have the occasional accident. With the Hoover SteamVac Widepath F6020 these occasional accidents no longer mean a new stain on my carpeting. I have also noticed a major decrease in the amount of pet odors in the house.
