My family has four cats and a dog. That equals a lot of fur on the carpets. We recieved our Hoover Steam Vac as a gift and had just been using a regular vacuum cleaner to clean our carpets.
The setup was extremely easy to figure out, I didn't even need to use the instructions. Within 20 minutes I was already shampooing a room. This model has a 'clean surge' button, which when depressed, will release twice as much cleaning solution for heavy traffic areas. There are five powerful brushes in the head that really dig down deep for dirt. The vacuum pickup is very good, just make sure you vacuum at a modest pace for the best efficiency. The quick-release handle is very convenient for adding new solution and dumping the dirty solution. It also comes with a hose with several attachments, one powered brush to clean stairs and auto interiors.
When I finished the first section of carpet and dumped the dirty tank, I was absolutely amazed. The water was filthy with tons of cat hair in it; this device really worked well. By the way, this Steam Vac is very easy to clean and store. For best results, you should vacuum the area you shampoo with a regular vacuum after the area has dried. This will remove any remaining dirt particles and hair the Steam Vac failed to pick up.
There is one minor detail that I don't like about this Steam Vac. It's not a true "steam machine", the water that cleans the carpet is only going to be as hot as the water you add to the machine. It's more like a hot water-extractor but nonetheless works very well for cleaning household carpets as well as auto interiors. I would recommend it to anyone that wants an easy to use device to keep their carpets extra clean.
