Dirt Cake Pot/Sand Cake Pail

I remember the first time I made this "Dirt Cake". We had been tranfered to Canton Ohio, and although it was only an hour and a half away from "home" I felt as if I was 1000 miles away from our families. All of his (my second husband) children and family and my children were coming for Easter Sunday Dinner. I think most of all of my Mother-in-laws expression when the kids and grandkids started eating my centerpiece, it was a moment in time........... For this recipe you need a new washed 8" clay flower pot, or a new childs sand pail and shovel......1/4 cup margerine....1 cup powdered sugar....8 oz. cream cheese....mix together and set aside.....In a large bowl mix ..1 small pkg instant chocolate pudding and 3 1/2 cups of milk....add the cheese mixture and mix well, then to this...fold in a 12 oz. carton of Cool Whip........Crush 25 to 30 Oreo Cookies (or process in processor)........Using the new flower pot,..put the Cool Whip lid in the bottom so hole is covered......alternate layers of the cookie mixture and pudding mixture, ending with crushed cookies....cover with wrap and refrigerate.......before I served this, I took fresh flowers, wrapped the stems in plastic wrap and inserted in center of pot and used a new small trowel to serve.....To make Sand Pail you use vanilla pudding and crushed Vanilla Sandwich cookies and shovel to serve....you can eliminate the flowers and put gummy worms on top the Dirt Cake, but it was Easter and I used flowers......It was a fun desert but also a very good one...)))
