WARNING...............
Extended warranties should never be purchased at the point of sale, either retailer or car dealer. The main reason is you will pay too much, and often times will not get the best coverage for your specific needs.
Who can you trust? No one in my experience unless they were not earning a big fat commission on sale. What most people don't realize is that a car dealer often earns more on the warranty than they do on the sale of car. Why pay $500.00 to $1,000.00 or more than you have to?

We purchaed two of their Top-Of-The-Line "Exclusion Policies" for our 2005 and 2007 Chrysler Town & Country vans respetively.
The policy allegedly covers all parts & labor for all except the items on the exclusion list.
Here's the catch:
IT DOES NOT COVER TROUBLESHOOTING/DIAGNOSTIC Time needed to identify the fault in order to repair it!!
Our 2005 is 1 month out of Chrysler warranty - an electrical problem with the power locks, windows and side slider door occurred.
So far I am on the hook for $160.00 in Diagnistic time costs.
I xalled W/D and told them that that Diagnostic time was NOT EXCLUDED anywhere on theior website or in the "policy book."
Supervisor Denise said since it was NOT MENTIONED AT ALL, it was not covered!
I mentioned that I was TOLD that troubleshooting was covered. She saidn basically, good luck proving it but it was not covered on this claim.
What a cop-out.
I'm CANCELLING my policies to find a deal on Real Chrysler Extended Warranties for my vans.
Also: filing a complaint (Errors & Ommissions) with the OAG and Insurance Department.
REMEMBER TO ASK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT TROUBLESHOOTONG - DIASGBOSTIC COVERAGE!!!!

Positive experience with an extended warranty from Comp USA (Reply to this comment)

I just wanted to report on a positive experience I earlier this month with my local Comp USA.
A little over a year ago (Feb 22, 2005) I bought a Creative Zen Micro (5 GB) for $250 (it was before they brought out the additional models and lowered the price on the 5 GB's). I decided to opt for the 2 year extended service plan, which I think cost another $45, since the Zen Micro had a hard drive and I am always wary of portable devices with expensive and delicate moving parts.
Well I never had a problem with the hard drive, but I did eventually have a problem with the headphone jack coming loose; apparently a lot of people have had this same problem. So I popped into my Comp USA and asked about it. I didn't have my receipt but they had my receipt electronically on file under my phone # so it didn't matter.
They salesperson didn't even test my unit to see if the headphone jack was bad, just said I could pick out any other comparable player (i.e. $250 retail) and they would give it to me. I had planned on getting the new 8 GB Zen MicroPhoto, since that was now priced at $250.
However they were all out of the Zen Micros. The only other Napster-compatible player they had in the same general price range was the iriver H10 20 GB, retail $300. So they gave me that, at no extra charge since they were out of stock on the Zen Micros. They of course took my old Zen Micro, but didn't need the box or any of the accessories.
Extended service plans are not always a good deal but in this case it was worth it. In fact I extended mine for another two years.
I really liked though that Comp USA exchanged the unit without my having to find the old receipt, bring in all the accessories, etc.

Sears lousy warrant service (Reply to this comment)

After 14 months of use my Sears electronic stove conked out. I had my extended warranty and called for repair. Sears told me the first open date was 17 days away. I think that's an unconscionable time to wait. Don't you? But what can I do?

Why thank you ....
I had a engine where they did that once. My engine blew a gasket (not me heheh) and had to be rebuilt, well, exactly 13 months later it blew another gasket and although my 12 month warranty was over my mechanic talked the supplier into replacing it for free. Thank goodness.

Most manufacturers like the company I work for gives customers leeways in terms of warranties. For example, we do not hold a one year warranty at 365 days. I've honored one year warranties at 15-18 months.
Also, it is good customer service to give your customers some slack. If you want something covered under warranty but it is beyond it's normal warranty, call the manufacturer for assistance. You have a good chance of getting it serviced for free.

Wow, thanks for the great information.
And, yeah, I know they are normally a waste of money - and I won't use them for anything that costs less than about $250 - but man, when I bought that treadmill - and that chipper - I really knew I would lose a gasket if the darn things broke on me at 366 days - so now I have peace of mind (even if it not warrantes. :)
But then, I always buy from Sears too.
