The Black and Decker VersaPak kits are a great choice for beginners. I received a set for christmas this year, and they're great. I have a 7.2 V Cordless Drill, 7.2 V cordless scroll saw, a 7.2 V cordless circular saw, and a 3.6 V cordless driver. They work excellent. They all have great power and are very good on batteries. All of them are small but sturdy, and really produce. They are also very inexpensive to buy as a kit, and they're really worth they're money. I can do just about anything with them. I've built many projects since I've gotten then, and I plan on buying more tools that use the VersaPak system. Black and Decker has really designed some great products for this line. From what I understand there's also an electric nail gun for this system and also a blender. I recommend buying some extra batteries though, because once you get going it's hard to stop in the middle of a project to recharge. Overall a great deal.
