To buy or not to buy, that is the question !

I am writing this opinion based upon my own experience as a state certified licensed air conditioning contractor. I hope this information will be useful to the consumer. I have learned that man-made appliances are often subject to failure and often as not, a good honest and dependable repairman is more desirable than a warranty or extended warranty.Keep in mind that a good warranty and a bad repairman still adds up to a broken appliance ! An appliance is only as good as the repairman, not the warranty ! When making an expensive appliance purchase, look for an appliance with a low repair ratio within the life of the appliance, therefor eliminating the need for an expensive warranty or extended warranty. Keep in mind also that a warranty is a manufacturer's insurance policy. The manufacturer is betting that the appliance WON'T break; you are betting that the appliance WILL! If the appliance is well made and doesn't fail, then it did not need the warranty to begin with and the manufacturer has made a larger profit, while you have received an assumed peace of mind for your extra expenditure ! The largest problem that I find with purchased warranties in the heating and air conditioning field is the every day change of employees and the sale of companies, leaving the consumer with a new person to deal with or a new company holding your warranty agreement without your consent, but still legal in most states ! Unfortunately, all do not have the belief in running their business that a satisfied customer will tell 10 people, a dissatisfied customer will tell 100 people ! In closing, shop around for price, compare, and last- BUY the best quality that you can afford ! When in doubt-"CONSUMER DIGEST" but that is another opinion !
