Pros: No pros here - only rank amateurs. Cons: now-horrid customer service, week-long service outtages, collapsing infrastructure.
Forget what I said before. Avoid this place. Like the plague. What was once great and well run is now just this side of a scam. SEE BELOW [ background INFO ] If you are like most people, you've never had the joy of ...
Pros: Inexpensive and reasonable flexibility through cpanel applets. Cons: Service is gone. Availability is terrible. Billing policies are not followed.
I have had an account with Affordablehost for about 4 years. It was inexpensive, flexible, and tech support was responsive - even available by phone if you had some patience. Then they changed ownership a year or so ago. It wasn't for the better. ...
Pros: Service is great and prices are affordable Cons: Smallest plan is only available at a yearly rate
Affordable Host works to keep the customers happy. One example is the way the hosting plans are set up. If none of the plans will work for your site, the owner, Tina Peters, is open to setting up custom plans to suit your needs.
Pros: Great Prices, Support, Service, and more. Cons: yearly payments, low bandwidth on plans.
I have a small website that I need hosting for, but didnt want to pay outragous fees. So, I turned to AffordableHost and they were able to help me out. They provide very attractive plans and features as well as support services. The tech supports...
Pros: Used to be cheap. Cons: Customer service is terrible.
The DotCanada buyout of Affordablehost has made Affordablehost WORTHLESS. Support is terrible, with pathetic excuses for addressing issues. Case in point: anonymous FTP. They disabled this, claiming it is a security hole. Why is it, then, that ...
Pros: Price, ease of sign-up, features offered. Cons: Getting info is difficult.
I haven't even begun to work on this host. It seems I have problems just getting started.
It's like pulling teeth to get info out of them; simple stuff like what DNS to use on the domain registration. Control panels are inconvenient at best....
I have been a fan of Affordable Host for over two years. Unfortunately the recent acquisition by DotCanada.com has resulted in an increase in downtime and frustration when using the software. Support, while responsive, isn't solving the problems like I've become accustomed to. Time for me to start looking for another hosting provider.
Calling it a day with Affordable Host by jack-fugueur ,Dec 28 '05
Pros: none since they were acquired by dotCanada.com Cons: incompetence, disinterest, unacceptable downtimes, unscheduled interruptions, particularly on a Sunday
Affordable Host was a small, friendly, efficient host provider with an exceptional customer service attitude and reasonable prices. Then they were taken over by dotCanada.com and things have never been the same since.
After almost three years with Affordable Host, I am moving my sites elsewhere.
Why?
unscheduled outages;
three hard disk failures in two days over two servers?
no apparent backup/restore procedures;
inefficient support;
unacceptably long downtimes (site currently down for 5 days and still waiting)
Transcripts of trouble tickets available to back up my statements.
Pros: Simple to sign up... Cons: ...but attrocious service after you do.
Been with them for several years. Have to say over the last year+ they've gone downhill. What used to be responsive c/s and good uptime has degenerated into unhelpful c/s and a lot more downtime. Currently I have a site that's been down for almost 36 hours. Reason: lost a hard-drive. Reason for delay in returning for service: corrupt backups. Seems to me that a company in this business should validate their backups, eh? Simply put: there are a lot of hosting companies out there, so avoiding this one should be easy to do.
Pros: nice user interface, cheap Cons: zero support, data loss, poor uptime
Affordable host is not a good company to have your site running on. We have been trying to do live with a new site for days now, but Affordable host is having internal problems with its databases, so we have lost all of our configurations, and the site has been down for more than 36 hours, with no explanation.
There is no one to talk to who can help the problem, so now we are scrambling to find another hosting company to run our site on.
On the plus side, I do give them credit for providing a nice user interface for maintaining the site.
Pros: None Cons: Everything, they just plain suck!
It used to be that they were just incompetent. Now they purposefully have sit it up so that there is no way to contact them. You cant call, email, submit tickets or even fax them anymore. It is even impossible to contact their sales department. I cant cancel our account, yet they keep sending the bills. They have basically turned into an Internet scam!
No longer any good, at all. by jojojovich ,Feb 15 '09
Pros: Not really any. Cons: Pretty much everything.
True, Affordable Host used to be great overall. Great customer service, great prices, easy, dependable.
Since being acquired by dotCanada a few months ago, all of their server names, login procedures and customer service points have changed, with no notice to customers. They are pretty much NOT, not cheap. And have a multitude of things that are far better, at many other places. Webmail access being one of them (you've got to have a certain port open on your machine, which, if at work, is rough).
