Take it from ME
Oct 27 '00
Let me just tell all you people who think you have what it takes to start a band a little something.....starting a band is seemingly one of the most easy things that a person can think of doing. WRONG! Take it from me. My advice to you: If you're going to start a band, start it with people who have no talent whatsoever. Then, if any good comes of it you will be pleasantly surprised.
My sob story is this: I have tried on numerous occasions to start a band. I mean, I have a bunch of friends who are musically inclined (which was our main problem) and we all decide "duh--wow! I can pluck at the bass" or "gee--I am kickin on the guitar." So we get our cocky selves together and decide to start with the most basic of ideas.
No, we don't write our own original music---in fact, we just try to do a cover of a song. A cover. As in one. Like Orgy's version of Blue Monday or something like that. Not that there is anything wrong with doing a cover of a song, it's just that we couldn't even do ONE right. We all get our little guitars or basses or trumpets or whatever we feel so inclined to play and then we start out.
IT'S TERRIBLE!!! Even after several attempts at playing, we still frankly were causing small children to cry and old ladies to fall over with epileptic seizures....it's no good. So we end up disassembling. I mean, it was fun and all to try, but it just did not work out and we all ended up getting mad at each other and saying stuff that we regretted later.
So back to my original advice: if you want to start a band, pray for no talent because then you won't say things about how other people couldn't play if they were being thrown off a cliff and their only saving grace was their tamborine-playing abilities. Actually, that wouldn't be such a bad idea. Start a tamborine band.....that's where the money lies.
