Finding each other through school or uni
Sep 07 '00
A lot of bands are started by a group of school or uni mates getting together and having a play around. This may not always get you the best musicians, as when it comes to friends, you're likely to let someone in that's not all that great.
But this way of getting band members together is the best way to make sure you're all on page 1 and you all want to do the same thing. Socialising with each other, having a few beers, sitting around after practise telling stupid jokes etc. is a great bonding experience and you'll hopefully start to enjoy each other's company.
If you're up on stage and you're not enjoying yourself, your audience will be able to tell and will turn away in droves.
People can work on their musical skills, but it's hard to get everyone wanting the same thing out of a band, so I'd say goals first, skills second.
