So, Ya Wanna Be A Rock Superstar?

Oct 20 '00

I have been in 5 bands, all of them have broken up after a year or so. There are many important things you need to start a band that's gonna go somewhere.
For starters, you need to play with people you can have fun with. That's the most important thing. You also all need to be on the same ability level. Another important thing is your equipment. You're probably going to need two guitar players (lead guitar and backup). The guitar is one of the most important instruments. It creates a tune. Make sure to pick out a good one. You're also going to need a bass guitar, which, like the drums, helps to keep a beat. The last thing you need is a drumset. It should probably be a 5-piece set (you don't want to go out and spend $3,000 on the best drumset only to have your band break up the next day). The drumset doesn't have to be the greatest in the world, but it should be pretty good.
Now you're going to need amps. Make sure to pick out a LIGHT amp (it's a real pain in the a** to carry around heavy ones). The amplifier should be loud, but not to the extreme that it blows the crowd away (unless of course, that's the effect that you want).
Your band should also practice as much as you can, because you want to sound good. That's pretty much all the basics you need to start a band. Now go out and have some fun.
