Just a few things you should not do, based on today's blunders.

I have noticed a few things about today's music and artists that I wish to implore upon future musicians. There are just a few charachteristics and features that you should avoid if you truly want to be a decent band worth seeing.
Be original. Aren't you a little worried about the direction modern music is heading towards? Don't write lyrics to get with members of the opposite sex or to make money. Write music to express your feelings and to feel good. Use the music like what it should be used for, and that is as A FORM OF ART. Music is art, and should be kept that way, so help to preserve music's integrity in your writings. Keep the lyrics artistic and try to make it as unusual and unique as you possibly can.
Also, try to make sure that you're not copying anybody else. Originality should be the most important thing here. Anybody can just come along and copy somebody else's works. If you decide to do a cover song, try to remix it and change the way it sounds. Make it different. Style really isn't the most important thing as long as its your own. You must have something to offer your fans that other bands don't.
Don't let anybody else ever tell you to do something differently. That's another thing. Most bands are always under the watchful eyes of their managers, and should you be signed, your management will try to mold you into the band they think would make the most money. Don't ever let this happen, should you hit the big time. Most bands that are just scrounging to stay alive are more respected than the bands that have their own mansions and expensive vehicles because they are doing it for themselves. Follow the path less taken and do things your way. Never do music for anybody other than yourselves. This, above all other things, is the best advice I can offer.
