Trust your doctor!

I have to say that all pregnancy are different and you really have to trust the doctor you've chosen. With my first pregnancy, I was just 24 and really didn't have a regular GYN, so I was referred by a friend to her woman OB/GYN. I figured that she's a woman, she should be someone that I could relate to. Boy was I wrong. My husband came along on my first appointment and after the initial medical history and examination, she invited my husband into the room. She went on to hand me some pamphlets and suggested that we should think about terminating my pregnancy. You see, before I knew that I was pregnant, I had taken some prescription antibiotics that evidentally "could" cause harm to unborn children. Since I had taken them during the developmental stages of my pregnancy she suggested the risks were too great. We went home and cried, and thought about our options. Well a few days later, she showed her true colors, being 8 weeks pregnant, I started to have a redish urination, and was running a fever. I called her office and the service told me that she couldn't be reached. I tried a few hours later and was once again told that she couldn't be reached as she was in delivery and that I should go to the Emergency Room if I felt it was an emergency. Well at the point of tears, a co-worked had called her GYN's office and they told her to immediately bring me in. I have never seen this doctor before and he immediately took me in. After examination, he suggested that I be hospitalized for a severe kidney infection. His office building is attached to the hospital and I was taken right over. About an hour later, he came in to make sure that I was okay. I was in tears, and he assured me that there was nothing to worry about. I told him about the medication that I had taken earlier and went into detail about the risks and how not to worry about it. There was nothing that I should be worried about. He asked for the other doctors number, which I gave to him and he immediately called her. She wasn't too happy about me switching care and within a week, I had a hefty bill for work she didn't perform (which was reported to the fraud dept. of my insurance company). I stayed in the hospital for a week and then bed rest for another, and continued to have frequent bladder and mild kidney infections throughout my pregnancy. I was put on a bi-weekly examination schedule, so they could be could be caught quickly. I finally delivered a very HEALTHY baby girl, who has no side effects what-so-ever. After that pregnancy, I swore I was never going to go through that ever again. BUT, I had two healthy pregnancy, with the exception of sciatica which resulted in 2 healthy sons all delivered by the same doctor.

I feel that this doctor saved my daughters life. If I had stayed with the original doctor, I feel that maybe I would have terminated my pregnancy at her suggestion. I think that you have to trust your doctor 100% and if your not getting all the facts, then find another. I had moved to a different part of the state shortly after my 2nd son was born, and when I conceived my 3rd child, I knew the only option for me was to drive the 40 minutes to my doctors office. I didn't want to risk the chance of getting another doctor from hell.
