A Biblical InstructionAug 30 '00 Write an essay on this topic. This epinion is in response to all the people that think circumcision isn't a good idea. I am not a mother, but for an entire year of college, I studied the Bible extensively. Though it may not have been by choice, I don't regret a moment of it. I found out a lot of scientific reasons as to why God commanded things. It wasn't always because HE was "all powerful" and being the "puppet master" to us. Some of His commands, were for our health. In Genesis 17:10-14 it says: 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised; every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house, or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, 13 both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant. Now a lot of you are thinking, "That's Old Testament. That's just a history book. What we really need to listen to is the New Testament." Well, that may be true, but this wasn't only for the covenant he speaks about, but also for the health of the child/man. Foreskin holds a lot of bacteria, and I hate to say this guys, but you aren't going to worry about that, you have better things to do that meticulously clean out your foreskin so you don't get diseases or spread them through sexual contact. Just that thought may sicken a lot of you, but it is plain fact. Now some of you are probably wondering, "Why does it state to do it on the 8th day?" The reason God mentions being circumcised on the 8th day after birth is because that is the time when the child has the most vitamin K in their system. Vitamin K helps to prevent any sort of hemorrhage or heavy bleeding that can come when being circumcised. It aids in the healing process. Because of the amount of vitamin K in the system, it really isn't the horrifying, painful, ordeal most people think it is. If all of this Bible information turns you off, then just think about the medical views of circumcision, because that is reason enough for me to have my future sons circumcised. |
