Its one way to teach responsibilityJan 25 '00 Write an essay on this topic."AHHH Mom, do I really have to?" How many times a day do we hear this? I am a mother of four kids ages ranging from 11-4. My four year old is not great at chores, just getting her to pick up her own toys is next to impossible. She likes the idea of helping with laundry and little things, but actual work, no way! I was doing chores when I was as young as 6 and I personally think it's a great way to show your kids, that there are just certain things in life that you HAVE to do, no matter what. My eleven year old son is the best! He will pick up and help out without me even having to say a word, in fact i've never had to even ask him, that I can remember. He has even learned to cook simple things and has a great time showing off his talents in the kitchen. We have a compromise in my house. I gather, wash and fold laundry, they each put their own clothes away and help their little sister do the same. I make and wash the dishes and they take turns drying and putting away. I clean the bathroom and kitchen and they clean the living room and their rooms. We also have an allowance system depending on the chores done for that week. I think they are very important to everyone in the household. I have a lot to do to keep up with their needs and I believe that I shouldn't have to clean up their room when they are definitely old enough to take on the responsibility of it theirselves. |
