Gimmicks for new parents!May 20 '00 Write an essay on this topic.On baby number two I realized in the buying process just how important only getting the things you need are. While pregnant with the first I registered and bought everything that said BABY or was indorsed by any parent magazine. After a house full of things I did not need I realized I wasted a lot of my and others money. I truly feel that manufacturers make things today just because they know we will buy it. So I am trying to help all of you new moms with this epinion. These are things I feel are essential: 1. Crib & Layette 2. Car Seat & Stroller 3. Play Pen 4. Swing (now they have them with the bassinet, all in one) 5. Jumper (fits in doorway, great for that four month age) 6. Clothes, Bottles, Diapers 7. Carrier - This makes life so much easier! No more pushing that stroller through little isles, strap them on and GO! 8. Diaper Bag - and guess what, unless you are going to be gone for ten hours, you only need to carry 4-5 diapers, and 2-3 bottles. You do not have to be prepared for a week. Some of these new bags I see people carrying just look painful! Things I feel are unnecessary: Bottle Warmers, Wipe Warmers, Floor Bouncers, Monitors, Dreft Detergent, Diaper Rash cream (use Niosporin!), Disposable Bibs, Pacifier Attachments, Feeder Bottles, Diaper Genies, Stroller Rain Covers (Give me a break, if it is raining stay inside!), Boppy Pillow (looks cute, but regular pillows do the same thing). I will add to my list as I think of more things. Every time I go to Babies'R'Us I am amazed at the stupid new products! Be Smart, return it all and buy diapers. Those are necessary. I Promise!  |
