When we were registering for our WISH list of baby items we really were torn as to whether or not we needed one, we had a crib and it was one more piece of furniture! I am happy to say I was wrong. Having this bassinet made our life easier and allowed us to be closer to our daughter. It was a baby taxi cab during the day and her bed at night. The bassinet is designed to accomidate your baby for the first 3 months and that is all you really need it for.
It helped that it came with such a pretty covering and when you have a girl you want frilly :) We had it all assembled and arranged the furniture in our bedroom and living room to accomidate the bassinet. Despite the fact our daughter was average in size she looked SO SMALL in her crib and when she was in her bassinet it just cradled her is such a way that she had room to move yet kept her cozy at the same time!
The fact that it was on rollers was a dream; because as you know when you have a new baby you want them with you all of the time even when you are in the bathroom, this allowed us to take her with us in the kitchen and living room during the day and move her to our room at night. She was close for all of the early, mid and late night feedings; but at the same time we didn't have to wake her up to move her.
The rocking feature was nice because it was another way we could comfort her when we were exhausted. But the surprising perk was the storage underneath the bassinet, it could hold spare clothes, sheets and diapering supplies. Our daughter has since grown out of her bassinet but we still use it for storage.
If you need a great gift for new parents this is the one to get. It includes so many wonderful features incorporated into one great bassinet.
