Heartbreaking NewsMar 25 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I thought I was alone but I just read MartieJ23's opinion on infertility to find out that I am not the only person that has PCOS Polysistic Ovarian Syndrome. I am 25 years old and I suppose you have this Syndrome when you are born considering it is hereditary. I was diagnosed with it in early January and when I first found out I was happy because the doctor told me that I could have a child I would just have to take fertility peels. But later when I got home I got very depressed when I started reading peoples stories on the internet. About 5-7% of women have this syndrome. It's not very easy to deal with but I know I have a lot of pain dealing with this to come but I am keeping my head high and hoping for the best. What It Is: As where a normal women's ovaries produce an egg when you have this syndrome your ovaries produce cyst. So this makes it a little hard to get pregnant. The symptoms of having this are: Obesity, acne, Man-like hair, and irregular menstrual cycles. Some of the long term problems are Diabetes and Heart Problems. Something to look forward to right? Treatment: There is no cure for this Syndrome at the present but there are a few ways that they are trying out to control it. There is a peel that is used to keep your insulin level down in your body which is one of the major factors of this syndrome. Your insulin level stays high so that is why obesity can be a major factor. A low carbohydrate diet is recommended to keep your insulin level down which is a good way to help control this. Fertility Drugs: I go back in April to start Clomid which is a oral fertility drug and hopefully will have success. I'm not going to get my hopes up to high just to be let down. I am hoping for the best and really want a baby but I'm going to be patient and not kill myself over it. There are a lot of women out there with this syndrome and it's not something that just needs to be looked over. |
