The hardest job I ever had....(part one)Sep 14 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I never thought being a stepmother was a hard job. That was before I became one! I met my husband 11 years ago. Actually I met his two boys, Scott age 7 and Jeffrey age 5 first. They lived in my neighborhood and enjoyed playing with my 2 year old son Sean. I enjoy drawing cartoon characters and they loved to watch me. Needless to say I met there father shortly after and we began dating. At first everything was great. The boys thought I was really nice. Then as things began to get serious between their father and me they began to resent me. They felt like I was trying to take the place of their mother. Almost as if by loving me they were somehow betraying her. There mother didn't help them adjust to the change in their lives. She was constantly putting me down. This made the children even more confused. That's when I started hearing those wonderful phrases such as "You're not my Mom!" I tried explaining to them that no I was not their mother, but I did love them and did not want to see them hurt themselves or get into trouble. By this time I had moved in with their father and we were discussing marriage. Things became worse and worse. The children became very hard for me to handle. It came to the point where I thought it would be better if their father and I stopped seeing each other. We sat the boys down and discussed this with them. To my surprise, this idea really upset them. Scott told me he didn't want me to leave because he really loved me and would miss me too much. Jeffrey on the other hand told me that if I left there would be no one there to cook his dinner...lol. I agreed to stay as long as we tried to get along better. I explained to them that this wasn't easy on me either being that I was only 21 and now a Mom to 3 children. Things did get better after that. Within 2 years their father and I had had a new son, whom we named Nicholas. When Nicholas was 2 years old we got married. Now we were a blended family. Scott and Jeff had a stepmother, Sean had a stepfather and all the boys had a half brother. If you think our troubles stopped here, think again! |
