One of the most important pieces of baby equipment you can buy is the car seat. Up until my son was 18 months old we used an infant car seat that was able to be used forwards or rear facing. We realized we needed something new when his feet were hanging way out of the seat and it began to look like a tight squeeze for him to sit inside. After much research, we decided on buying the Century Breverra booster seat. We have generally been pleased with this car seat.
Features
*Has firm head and back support and a headrest.
*Comes standard with the five-point harness that has been regarded as the safest child security system. This is removable.
*Comes with a comfort clip on each side of the seat.
*Removable and washable car seat cover.
What We Like About This Seat
* Unlike his infant car seat which had a backwards tilt to it, this booster seat elevates my son so that he is better able to see outside of his window. This makes for a more exciting trip for baby.
* The five-point harness comes with 2 height adjustments, so you can raise it as your baby grows. This was especially nice for us, since our son has always been off the charts in height, yet did not quite meet the weight requirement to remove the harness system.
* When you do remove the 5-point harness system, you must use a seat belt that has both shoulder and lap belts. The shoulder belt can be hooked onto the Comfort Clip on either side of the car seat. This helps keep the belt in place and does not allow it to creep up on the child's neck where it would be uncomfortable and dangerous. Because this clip is on both sides of the seat, you may position the booster chair on either driver or passenger side.
* You can remove the car seat cover with relative ease and wash it (alone) in the washing machine. It will maintain its shape when allowed to air dry. It did not shrink and was easy to get back onto the plastic frame.
* The booster seat is light and very portable, so it's easy to switch between cars. Ours held up well for all of the abuse it's been put through.
A Few Things We Didn't Like About This Seat
* Your child is sitting straight up, so when he inevitably falls asleep on those long trips, his neck will loll to one side, unsupported. I can't count how many times I've had to lean back from the front seat to hold his head up until we could find a stopping place.
* Once I took the cover off to wash it, and subsequently put it back on, I found that it moves around too much. Now that my child is able to get in the car seat by himself, when he slides himself on, instead of me picking him up and placing him straight down on top, the cover slides with him and gets bunched up under his bottom.
* The seat bottom is not padded well, so on long trips little bums get tired quicker.
* Because the plastic frame's bottom is completely flat, it does not sit firmly in some cars. We rented a Ford Taurus on a trip once and we had trouble with the car seat actually staying upright on some turns.
* This seat can only be used on an airplane safely when you are using the five-point harness. Not a terribly huge deal since we don't do a lot of jet-setting!
One note on price...
When I looked this product up on the web, it quoted the price of $60, but we found ours at Target for $49.99.
