Don't forget to childproof the new house.Sep 21 '00 Write an essay on this topic. We just moved from an apartment into a house. My two sisters have 2 babies under the age of two years old. My oldest niece is only 14 months old. She is at the age where she wants to touch everything. I guess that this is what kids her age do. Sometimes I wonder if I did the same things at her age? So, the subject of childproofing and getting the house ready for Candace came up. What do we do to keep her out of the low cabinets in the kitchen and out of the shelf with the video tapes? My family had a lot of work to do before Candace could come to live with us. One of the first things that we bought for the new house was a couple of safety gates. That way we can block off the kitchen at different times of the day. If we can keep Candace out of the kitchen all together, she won't be able to go into the low cabinets. Next, we moved all of the household cleaning products from the front of the cabinets to the shelf at the back of the cabinet, in case she ever did get into them. When we bought our new vcr for the living room, we made sure to hook it up very high on the entertainment unit because Candace is at the stage where she just loves to watch her favorite video of Blues Clues over and over. She somehow learned how to turn the vcr on in the old apartment and actually play her tape all by herslef. I think that this makes her very smart but it can be dangerous too if she knocks something off of the shelf onto her head trying to reach the vcr. All in all, childproofing is very important. We try to keep extension cord wires out of the way too. Anything that she can get into must be put up high or completely out of the way. Good luck. |
