Not For The Squeamish

If the HCG hormone (the Pregnancy hormone) is making your life one of nausea and misery, don't despair! You've probably been told that it will be over soon (morning sickness usually goes away after the third month), but knowing this may not be enough to get you through the days and nights of queasiness and vomiting that still lie ahead. Fortunately the modern-day woman has new weapons to help combat the nausea.
Forget about eating crackers as soon as you wake up in the morning. It may have helped Grandma some, but probably not that much. Besides, Grandma didn't have Sea-Bands. These elastic wristbands have a small plastic ball that presses against a certain nerve in your wrist and stops you from having the urge to vomit, often alleviating nausea altogether. They are a Godsend. You can buy them at the drug store for about $7 a pair. Take my advice, buy two pairs so you'll have a back up set when you're washing and drying the other ones.
Here are some other things that will help you to feel good when your pregnancy is making you sick:
Keep lots of popsicles on hand. Twin pops are the best, because you can break them in two pieces for easier biting. Bite the popsicle off in fairly big bites and swallow them down frozen. The results should be immediate as the popsicle works it's way down into your stomach, cooling and soothing everything in it's path.
If your stomach is burning try baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda mixed up in 1/2 cup of water. If you've never used baking soda water for heartburn before, don't be scared off by the taste. Just drink it down really fast. After you've used it a few times and come to appreciate it's acid-destroying properties you won't mind the taste at all. You will feel the effects immediately.
Try to eat whenever you can, or should I say try to graze. Eat small amounts of food as often as you feel like it, drinking ice-water in between snacks. Dry cereal is good, like HoneyCombs or Corn Pops or Frosted Mini-Wheats. They provide you with bulk and fiber, they are fortified with vitamins and iron, and they are easy on your stomach. Eating candy will often make you feel better, and you may find that it stimulates your appetite. Cream Cheese can be good, try it with Snyders Pretzels or melba toast or mini-bagels. Cream cheese is also good to eat with carrot and celery sticks. Keep lots of foods around that you really like and can enjoy with little preparation.
Speaking of food preparation, avoid it as much as you can if it bothers you to be around food. The frozen food section of the supermarket can really be a blessing. Stock up on frozen entrees and TV dinners and the like. The frozen food section these days has an amazing variety of tasty foods that will keep your family fed and happy and will save you hours and hours in the kitchen. Look through the newspaper grocery ads for these things to go on sale, and stock up.
Rest as much as you can, get help whenever you can with housework and cooking, and try not to feel bad about not doing too much. Believe me, you'll be able to make up for it when the baby comes. And like they say, it will all be over soon!
