Working Daddies need supportive Mommies

I was home for only 11 weeks all of 1999. Why? Not by my choice but by the Air Force's!

This meant that I missed by 4 year olds birthday (for the second year in a row), Mother's Day, my anniversary, Easter, etc, etc. I missed seeing my boys score their first goal in soccer. I missed parent teacher conferences. I missed hearing them sing at the Christmas program at church...I think you get my point...I missed 9 months of my boys life in 1999...but thankfully the one thing I had was a supportive wife!

Although I didn't escape without the phone calls saying, "you won't believe what those boys did, I'm going to trade them away or sell them at the garage sale" but 99% of my calls were telling me a play by play of their day, the exciting things they had learned or said. Every phone call included an I love you Daddy and I'm proud of you!

My picture hung on their bedroom wall and every night I got my kisses from my boys. Every night I was prayed for so that I would make it back home safely. And every night my wife watched CNN to see if any planes had crashed during Allied Force and to see if I was safe. To her surprise and mine my face was shown on a DateLine interview - and she told me how wonderful it was to see me, even if it wasn't in person.

Maybe the trash didn't make it out each week and maybe the lawn wasn't mowed or the snow wasn't always shoveled away...but the things that were most important to me were taken care of, my family! There is no price you could pay for the true support of a loving wife.
