HomeKids & FamilyCribs and BassinetsIs it Safe to Sleep with my Baby?

For parents with "thrashing, kicking, & elbows" in the middle of the night!

If your little, unexpected, night time guests are anything like my kids, no one in your bed probably gets any sleep. So, here's a great idea for anyone with children who love to creep into their parent's bed during the night, due to loneliness, sickness, or force of habit.

Instead of throwing away an extra twin mattress, store it underneath your bed. The next time you have a midnight visitor, you'll have a place of safety and comfort for them to sleep alongside your bed, especially if you need to keep an extra eye on them.

If you don't have an extra twin mattress for disposal, buy a cheap one or a cot mattress, (especially if your bed is too low to the ground for a regular twin mattress.) Even a pull out sleeping bag is better than having to deal with a knee or elbow in your back. You can probably even buy one at a garage sale or by scouting the classified ads in the newspaper for not a whole lot of money. Any cost is well worth getting more sleep in my opinion!

Another idea for an extra twin mattress is to store it underneath your child's bed. They will then have an extra mattress to pull out when they have a guest for a sleep over. Your child's guest will love it and you'll save money, forgoing an expensive bunk or trundle bed.
