All Girls...huh???

I think almost as annoying as the "Are they all yours?" question is when all the children are of the same sex, especially if they are girls in a large family. I saw the hurt in my Mom's eye when people would ask that and then these same ignorant people then proceed to brag about how their Joe and Ted are a big help to Dad and are on the football, baseball and basketball team. While Mary is just the sweetest thing around the house.
Well US 5 girls were just as helpful to our Dad around the house as if we were boys. In fact, we had two designated "tomboys" who liked to do stuff with Dad.
Next time someone starts to mention the fact how large your family is just use some these explanations.
The benefits of having large families:
*I have one of the cleanest houses in town, as everyone shares in the chores. (I can personally attest to this.)
*We probably don't spend anymore for clothes than you do as they can be handed-down.
*We eat healthier as everyone doesn't get large portions because you have to make your meals stretch. (I can remember my Mom cutting up Spam to feed all five of us. A whole chicken, hey everyone just got one piece not two or three.)
*Your children developed into well-rounded individuals as they don't have so many mental problems and hang-ups. (You can share all your pre-teen and teenage problems with your siblings and they UNDERSTAND what you're going through. The older ones can even offer advice to the younger ones as how to get around Mom and Dad. You don't need to go off and do drugs, drink or smoke because one of your siblings would find out and would tell on you anyways.)
*Often as the family grows up, they stay together as a unit. It is so much fun to get together on special occasions and have 10-15 family members and extended members to share stories with.
The only real downside I see coming from a big family or having one is that unless you can afford a room for each one and at least 2 1/2 bathrooms they will not have the privacy that I in my later years value more than anything.
Anyone in this day and age that decides to raise a large family, well I say more power to you.
