| maddi's Full Review: Delta Luv Fold-a-Way 11 Portable Crib |
In August, I gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Since my husband’s family all lives out of state, we decided recently to drive down so everyone could meet the baby. I voiced a concern with my mother-in-law on sleeping arrangements for our daughter. Should I bring the playpen or perhaps maybe our daughter could sleep in her Moses basket the entire time. My mother-in-law said not to worry about it, that she would have a sleeping area for Parker when we arrived.
After a grueling 12-hour trip, we arrived at 3am, tired from the long drive and with a fussy baby. My mother-in-law quickly brought out a box with our daughter’s crib away from home in it. It was a Delta Luv Fold-A-Way 11 Portable Crib . Trust me when I say my husband cringed at the idea of putting a crib together after 12 hours on the road and at 3 am in the morning. But with the easy to follow instructions and a straight screwdriver it was assembled in about 15 minutes.
The Delta Luv Fold-A-Way 11 Portable Crib measures 39”Wx25”Dx42”H and made of light-weight light colored wood. The crib came with a special 38”x24”x3” mattress. The crib and mattress are smaller than a standard sized crib but for a small baby, it worked great. One side of the crib drops down for easy access in placing a sleeping baby in it. When raising and lowering the side rail, it catches quietly and smoothly. This lessens the chance of waking a sleeping baby.
The mattress can be positioned in two places. On top position, about 6” below the top of the rail, makes the crib great for newborns or as a changing table. The lower position will work great when Parker is older and able to roll and stand. The mattress is not of top quality but does serve the purpose. It is not as firm as others we have used in the past and the outer covering vinyl looks as though it could easily tear because it is rather thin. But for short-term use, it was fine.
When it was time for us to leave and head back north (YUCK!), the crib was folded down and slid under the bed for storage. Folding the crib was as simple as removing the mattress and mattress support springs and flipping a couple locks on the side, then pushing the crib sides together.
I liked having an alternative place for our daughter to sleep while at Grandmas. I can also see how useful this item would be if you travel a lot, have a small nursery, or living arrangements because it doesn’t require a lot of space nor does it take long to set up. I highly recommend the Delta Luv Fold-A-Way Portable Crib for new parents, grandparents or anyone who travels a lot with a small baby.
