Several years ago, over the course of my treatments I had a condition that warranted the usage of Depo-provera or take a pill a day for the first ten days of the next three months...I thought that since I forget to take medicines it would be best to take the SHOT. Biggest mistake of my life!
A warning...This gets GRAPHIC:
Anyone who has taken Depo-provera knows that bleeding irregularly is one of the side effects. Without getting to gross, I bled for six weeks, it went form just annoying spotting to hemorrhaging! And of course I had the horrible cramping associated with this drug, but since I NEVER had cramps I thought I just wasn't used to it.
I eventually had to be hospitalized two times.
During the first hospital admission, the Dr. didn't know how I was still alive and conscious because my H & H was so low. To avoid PERMANENT damage to my internal organs (due to lack of oxygenation and blood volume) I was forced to accept 2 blood transfusions. (TOTALLY wonderful thing to have available~Thanks to all that donate~) I was sent home on various medications and weaned down to none. As soon as I was weaned off...the bleeding started again (Depo-provera was still in my system WREAKING havoc!) I was admitted a second time and ended up needing surgery and to be on medications for a while. Then it stopped-Finally!
MY personal suggestion READ the side effects, even the most remote chance of happenings! The DR said my reaction to Depo-provera was the worst she had ever seen! I believe the literature says it happens 1 in every 100,000 (or was it 10,000) Either way...now you know someone who was the ONE!
