It wasn't my fault.... THEY didn't do their job...

Some have opined that it was all the parents' fault, in many of these violent situations played out in so many venues recently. Schools, daycares, and churches, among other places, have been unlikely, sad scenes of personal, and mass destruction.

There is plenty of blame to share, and denying that video games, music, and movies had any part on this is just not possible.

All of those items contribute to the desensitization to violence. The parents do bear blame, to a point, but claiming contributors to be scapegoats just avoids part of the problem. A whole solution considers the complete situation, and those negative influences definitely factor in to the equation.

You, as a listener, player, or moviegoer, having avoided full influence of those negative factors does not disprove their effects, just as surviving a russian roulette game does not prove it is not dangerous. We each have ultimate responsibility what we allow into our lives, some of us choose not to take chances, by not allowing what we know to be detrimental into our lives.

The example we show others also comes into play.

For instance, let's suppose I drink and have no problem with alcohol affecting my life negatively. (I do not drink, just an illustration) The people I associate with see me drinking, and alcohol not damaging my life. It is known that a certain percentage of the population does have a definite inclination to alcoholism. A person doesn't normally become an alcoholic, they simply discover it, by exposing themselves to alcohol, something like an allergy. So, I am providing an unrealistic example to those people, who I hopefully call friends. To my mind, my friends are worth not taking that chance, even were I to want to drink, which I don't.

What kind of friend would I be to them? In effect I would be playing russian roulette with their lives. And yes, I would bear a portion of the blame for their problems, were they to happen to be among those affected. The same applies to violence, some people do have a predispositon to violence. If you don't believe that, I invite you to read a particularly touching account of a young woman's fearful encounters with her preschool child. She was actually in fear of her own, and her other child's life. I have seen other accounts of parents having to lock themselves in their rooms for the night, to avoid the dangers from their own child.

Medication does play a part, but you add your own example to those people's lives, many times without even knowing. You never know who looks to you as an example, which points a very big fat finger at persons such as Manson, both of them, Charles, and Marilyn... And you, as an adoring fan, play right in to the scenario.

You'll have to make your own decision where you can comfortably stand. I choose to stand as far separated from "entertainers" who glamorize violence, and trash talk, as possible.
