TrampolinesApr 11 '00 Write an essay on this topic. For about a year now, my son's elementary school has used an individual sized trampoline for therapy when the children get hyped up. Instead of waiting until the situation is out of control with the child not being able to stay in their seat and being disruptive, the teacher schedules time for the child to go to the therapy area where he can jump on the trampoline for about 15 minutes or so. At first, I did not believe that this would be an effective treatment option because this seemed like it was too much fun, and it would be like play instead of therapy. However, after buying two bed frames because my son broke his by standing on the bed and jumping, I decided that before I bought yet another bed frame, that I would see if I could find an individual sized trampoline. I did find one at the local Goodwill store, used of course, but in good shape so I put it in my dining / living area to see how that would work out. Let me tell you, it worked out great! My son would go onto the trampoline and jump instead of jumping on the floor or on the bed. (I'm sure my neighbors below me in the apartment complex love that!) and it helped him release a lot of energy and tension in his body. I truly encourage anyone with a hyperactive child, be they ADHD or having the effects of autism, to purchase a trampoline for your children to work off of some of their energy. |
