| MagCentaur's Full Review: Evenflo Trendsetter Advantage Travel System |
I started liking my mother-in-law much more after she gave us the Trendsetter. This baby's convenient, functional, and the 4x4 of strollers.
The car seat/carrier snaps in and out of the base (the carrier is also able to be strapped securely in car without the base), which means baby does not have to be awake and fussy in store if she's like most and falls asleep during the car ride. Once the carrier's out, there are two transportation choices available--three in a shopping situation: carry the carrier (which isn't pleasant for a long length of time, even with an eight pounder), snap the carrier into the stroller, or snap it onto the shopping cart. After an outing, the carrier can be placed on the floor, allowing the bonus of the rockable bottom to be used.
Let's back up to that stroller. This stroller allows for the oh-so-talented-looking one-handed pop-up opening that makes a parent feel competent, and it boasts a one-handed (as well as traditional) handle to make a parent feel cool. It features a place for sunglasses, a bottle, and even--gasp--a drink for Mom or Dad (we don't always have to be COMPLETELY selfless). At the feet of the stroller is a compartment for a diaper bag and the purchases doubtlessly made for the "strollee." And that strollee has the luxury of a seat that is adjustable to myriad positions once she graduates from the carrier. Both the carseat and the stroller have retractable sun shades, which, when used in combination, fully shield the baby from the sun from all directions. The stroller's shade has a little plastic "window" for quick peeks at the little one. Even better than the shades is the suspension on this stroller which makes potholes stand back and take notice, and the front wheels rotate, smoothly, a full 360 degrees. The stroller/carrier combo is sturdy and compact, well padded, and comes in a variety of materials (all of which, unfortunately, seem to have blue as the predominate color, making people assume my petite flower to be a boy), even Osh Kosh (which you pay almost $100 more for).
The only drawback to this combo lies with the carrier: it's too heavy--even empty, but especially full of baby. Still, that very heft makes me feel all the more confident that my baby is safe. All in all, the Trendsetter combo is as tricked out as mid-lifed man's corvette, while being as safe as a soccer mom's Volvo.
