Make sure the toy is appropriateDec 04 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Christmas is almost here, the biggest time of the year for the toy industry. But, while we are shopping for the children in our lives we should consider a few points, its very easy to just pick up a toy that looks as tho our children would enjoy it, but there reallly are a few points we need to keep in mind. 1) Age appropriate...all toys should have an age range on them, now I'm not saying follow the printed range to the letter (or number) as some children are more, or less, advanced than others, but be sure that the toys you buy are going to interest the child, if something is too advanced there is a big chance the child won't play with it, they'll try for a while but get frustrated, also it may not be safe for the child, also if a toy isn't advanced enough it will be played with for about 10 minutes and then they will be bored with it. Judge for yourself, you know how the child is and should be able to tell by looking at a toy and reading the package whether its suitable. 2) Safety...whenever buying a toy, make sure its safe, a small child can choke on a toy with small pieces, and also can choke on a toy that small pieces can break off of. This is probably more important or at least as important as age appropriate, I used to work in the toy industry and it is amazing how many toys really aren't safe for our children....use common sense when you are toy shopping, its well worth it. 3) Educational...this is more my opinion than a necessity, but I beleive that educational toys are the best, children learn by play, something educational is going to give your child so much more than anything else, there are so many toys out there these days that can be classed as 'learning toys' that you are no longer stuck with the same old few if you are looking for educational, building blocks teach dexterity, and so can toy cars, of course there are the play computers etc and they are wonderful for teaching math, spelling, reading, writing etc. I've a feeling that I'm going to be rated poorly for writing this, but this site is all about 'opinions' and this is my opinion of toy buying, take a few minutes to think about what you are buying, you will end up with happier, safer kids, and you will feel more satisfaction from your purchases. |
