Apples to Apples is destined to be a classic party game. Each player is dealt a hand of 7 red apple noun cards. In turn, each player picks the top card from the pack of green apple adjective cards. When this card is read and played on the table each player, other than the judge, picks a noun from their hand that is best described by that adjective. There is a trick here, however. You must play your card quickly or it does not count. The game comes with 2 different rules in this area for different numbers of players. For 4 or 5 players only the first 4 cards played are counted, but players may play up to 2 cards each (one at a time). For 6 or more players each player is allowed to play one card and all but the last card gets judged. We have found however, that the best way to run this is that the number of cards allowed to be played is (number of players -1) and each person is allowed to play up to 2 cards. The reason for this is that when you play that the last card does not count, we found people just grabbing a card as quickly as possible without even trying to match the adjective. It could also be quite difficult to see whose card was last.
After all the cards are played the fun begins. The judge now picks up all the face down cards and reads them, choosing the one he or she feels is best described by the played adjective. The players can also lobby for the card they played. This makes the game an absolute riot. The explanations people come up with as to why theirs is best can get really wild. Once a winner of the card is chosen, that person gets the card and the judge moves one to the left. Winner is the first to accumulate 8 points (cards).
I highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys fast moving party games. The game can be learned quite quickly and seems to be enjoyed by both die hard gamers and non-gamers equally.
