If Your Going To Take The Plunge Be Prepared For Accidental Drowning...

Hang on a second while I pull out my soapbox to climb on.

Let me start by saying that divorce is the #1 reason to never get married. My whole life I swore I would never marry. I had seen too many family members and friends end up in very bitter divorces. I was married... once. I didn't like it, ended up almost hating my best friend whom I divorced and now live with happily.

I lived with this man for 3 years and we got along fantastic. For some stupid reason (I call it my temporary insanity) we decided to take the plunge and get married. We both thought that after 3 years of living together we could handle marriage.

We were very wrong.

What is marriage anyway? It's a piece of paper. A license to say that you love someone forever.

Excuse me but who needs a piece of paper to tell you that you love your partner? I don't mean to get on a religious rant here but did Mary & Joseph have a piece of paper saying they loved each other? They didn't need one because in the eyes of those higher up they were not doing anything wrong.

When did all this marriage stuff start? Who's idea was it that you had to go out and get a license, a blood test in some states, buy the fanciest dress and suit you can find, invite every family member, friend, hated aunt or uncle, parade down an aisle in front of all these people, stand in front of a preacher and pronounce to him that you love your partner till death do you part??? Not to mention the rings and the thousands of dollars spent to do all this.

I don't think this was ever the intended thing to happen when 2 people love each other. I chose my lifestyle of living together for the fact that we love each other. We don't need that piece of paper because in the eyes of those higher up we are doing nothing wrong. To everyone else, it's nobodys business how I choose to live.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to be like the virgin Mary (haven't been a virgin in years). I don't believe that a piece of paper is a requirement to love someone till death do you part.

Ok, I'm putting my soapbox away for now but be prepared because I keep it close by for frequent use.
