Like all of your reviews, very well done. I have read articles recently that indicate the ideas about HIV infected moms not being able to breastfeed might be wrong, but I would have to research that more before I wrote about it myself.

Nothing Left Out Here (Reply to this comment)

I have 3 children, all of which were breastfed till they weened them selvs. Which didn't take long considering how often they ate, and still do . My first was 3 months (the healthiest), 2nd was for 5 weeks (healthy, but still catchs the latest school bugs first), and my 3rd for 4-5 weeks (and very healthy too). With my 2nd child the milk was to rich and gave him diarreah, and no matter how I changed my diet it didn't fix the problem, but he got the colostrum plus some just the same.
I can not agree with you more by saying there is a bond there that is irreplacable. I would pump just so my husband could hold the newest addition, (I couldn't hord all the attention.)
It is frustrating at times, especially at night, but it is easier just to reach over, and latch them on vs. putting on a robe, and nuking a bottle while they scream and wake everyone else up in the process.
Very well written piece! (HR all the way!)

Your reviews are always fantastic and this one is no different! I love the idea of putting reference/resource books at the end of your reviews. It makes it seem just that more complete! Thanks!

Jen, I totally agree - with the exception of the situation where the mother is working herself into a state of such stress because she cannot breastfeed. At some point, what is best for the baby & the mother (IMO) is for them to be happy with the experience.

I do agree, though, that many many mothers are advised to quit bf'ing because it isn't working well, or its causing them stress, etc. There are so many resources available, my hospital has a fabulous lactation department. Thanks again for the comment,

Amy :)

good review, just another point (Reply to this comment)

Many moms think stress is a good reason to not breastfeed.
Stopping might make matters worse though, as I found out firsthand.

Support is essential, if a mother is having major difficulties, please seek help, often problems can be solved.

I found breastfeeding to improve my mental state and ease my stress.

Lee Ann you are too funny. Well, actually, I started writing this on the plane one day. Since then I have played with it a couple times -- divided it into sections, etc. The "How-to" and "Support" sections will probably come out later, some time when I have another long plane trip to fill... <GRIN>
Thanks again!
