My Gift from God

Dec 11 '00 (Updated Dec 12 '00)

The reason the I made the title of this epinion my gift from God is because my first son was and is truly a gift from God. His name is Nathaniel which means gift from God.

Some background on me. I was told by seven doctors I would never ever have children. I had given up hope on ever giving birth to my own children. I had my seventh and last operation on my reproductive system in January 1995. I was told again by the doctor that I would never have my own children. I got pregnant with my oldest son in March of 1995. I was in total shock and disbelief. When that wore off I was the happiest woman on the face of this earth.

The pregnancy was a hard one. I was on bed rest most of the time and I almost lost my son many many times. I was able to carry him full term and plus 2 weeks! The doctors were again shocked that I was able to carry him so long.

I went into labor on January fourth at 9:00 am. At 9:30 am my water broke. The midwife I had saw that my son had pooped inside of me and did nothing about it. According to the nurse it was a lot of poop. The midwife never got the doctor and never told anyone about it. I stayed in labor for 23 hours and I was pushing for over 2. I had gotten to 10 cm and my son was not coming out. His heart rate was dropping and I was having problems breathing.

My husband grabbed one of the nurses and yelled at her to get the doctor. She did and the doctor checked everything out and ordered a emergency c-section. I had to be knocked out and I never saw or heard my son being born.

I was very sick after the birth and so was my son. Both of us being sick was due to him pooping inside of me and the midwife not doing anything about it.

I was not able to breast feed my son, which I wanted to do very badly because I was on so much medicine and was not allowed to by the doctors. By the time they took me off everything and said I could breast feed everything I had was dried up.

Now I have a very healthy and very happy and very active (almost) 5 year old boy. He is the joy of my life and I thank God everyday for him!
