As a parent and a home daycare owner I have been in both shoes, as the caregiver and the parent. Going to work and leaving your child in the hands of someone is quite frankly a very frightening aspect of parenting. But knowing some things to look for and questions to ask may help make the selection of child care a little easier.

First and foremost if you decide to go with a home daycare I would highly recommend a licsensed home daycare. There are many reasons for this, one you know everyone in that house has passed background checks, and that they are watched and monitored by the state that you live in. Lisencing is wonderful but nothing is 100% but as a parent I would prefer a liscensed individual, also with a liscensed individual you know they are CPR and First Aid trained.

Here are some suggestions to take with you when you go on interviews of child care facilities, one dont seem too eager if you like the person or place, Dont be afraid to look around the home, and ask as many questions as possible, you may even want to bring a notebook to jot down the answers. Ask the provider to see his/her liscensing and make sure they are in compliance with their child capacity, ask to see their CPR and First Aid ceritificates. References are a must, I would ask for references from former parents who used their service, personal references and also former employers. You can never be to through as this is your child's life we are talking about. Ask the provider is they offer the "Open Door Policy" meaning you can drop in at any time unannouced to check on your child.

Make sure you ask them what form of discipline they used, a little hint if they are liscensed with the state then they are forbidded to use corporral punishment or spanking. Check to see if they have a daily menu so you can get a idea as to what kind of meals they serve, if they are nutrious and not the same thing everyday. See what there sick care policy is, vacation policy, late fee policy etc.

This should help you out on your road to finding to quality child care. One more note about child care, most parents cannot afford alot for child care, but wouldnt you rather spend a little bit more for quality child care, in other words shop the market not the price field.

Just remeber dont seem to anxious, be sure to make a list of questions before you enter the facility, and dont be afraid to ask them, that is what we expect. Also check the indoor and outdoor of facitly to make sure they have all safety and child proof items in the home. Good luck in finding the perfect child care for you families needs.
