Being blessed with a gift of a child!

Dec 04 '00

One of the best things of being a women I think is being able to create another human life. I have been blessed three times now. I have had three pregnancies. All of them a experience I will never forget.

My first pregnancy was a complete surprise. I was 17 and swore I would not get pregnant until I was wed. But, to my surprise in July of 1989 I found out I was pregnant. The guy I was with was the love of my life then and still is to this day. I was scared he on the other hand was excited. We were in engaged, planning to wed in July of 1990. I had seen two of my sisters become pregnant and have had the experience being around my neices and nephews when they were babies. But, never realized I would be pregnant at 17. The hardest thing for me was to tell my mother. She was easy to talk with, but I was afraid of her reaction. I went to the doctor's and found out I was three and a half months pregnant. I needed to tell her right away. I sat down one night and told her and she was happy for me.

My pregnancy went by quick. Before I knew it I was close to delivery and big as a house. I had gained alot of weight. But, in the past months every thing went smooth. I had regular check ups with my doctor, took my prenatal vitamins. I rested a lot. On April 15, 1990 I went into labor. I was not scared before because I thought my pregnancy was such a breeze that I thought the labor would be a breeze too. But, I was wrong. I woke up from sleep with sharp pains. I told my husband that I was in labor he of course did not wake up so I called his mom. She got on the phone with him and told him to bring me there so she could watch me. I was real scared. I had heard stories of labor nightmares but, never thought it would happen to me. Well , let me tell you I started labor at 11:30p.m and at 7:31am my daughter Danni Lee was born. The pain was no problem, I pushed her out in minutes after waiting to be fully dialated. It was a breeze after all.

But, with my second pregnancy I had an easy one. I had no complications with the pregnancy. Although this pregnancy I felt had lasted for years. I found out when I was 6 weeks along that I was pregnant. I was excited but, tired for I had gotten pregnant with my second child four months after the birth of my first child. So I still had a baby plus, was pregnant with another baby. I do not recommend this to anyone. So hard. But, I did have lots of help from family and friends. On March 22, 1991 I woke up and got out of bed and started walking when my bag of water broke. I immediately went to the hospital. I started laboring at 6:30am. I had some complications with the labor. My daughter was stuck in my cervix and would not come through. My doctor tried helping her but, it was extremely painful to me. So we just decided to wait it out. The other problem was that my blood pressure was really high so I had to lay on my left side the entire time. This labor was not a breeze. I could not have any pain medication because of the high blood pressure. Every time I would have a contraction my husband would be in my face talking to me to keep me distracted and the nurse would rub my back. This I have to tell you helped. It relieved some pain and kept my mind off of my pain. Finally, at 11:18am my daughter Stephani joined the outside world.

Now, my third and last pregnancy was hard. I had tried prior to this pregnancy for three years to get pregnant. I could not. I had to go on fertility drugs. I conceived three months after I starting taking them. I was so happy. I wanted a boy but, would except whatever I had. I found out I was pregnant at five weeks. I was so happy. Then after my sixth week I started bleeding. I was so sad. I thought this is it I planned for this baby and now I was losing it. But, I went to the doctors. They had no clue why I was bleeding and told me it should stop. I needed to be on bed rest for a week. I was scared. But, I did what I was told to do. But, it did not stop. I bled all the time. I was bed ridden for months at a time. To handle this I had lots of friends and family to keep me occupied. I had seven ultrasounds with this pregnancy just to make sure everything was okay. I was taken out of work at 6 months. I had to have non stress tests done from six months on. I was at the doctors every week. I was hospitalized twice while being pregnant and bleeding. I was afraid every month that they would tell me one month that my baby was gone but, I was lucky. I carried him to full term and even past that. I was due December 15, 1997 but, I did not go into labor until 10:00pm on December 22, 1997. My water broke at 10:00 and shortly after the pains started coming. I had a hard labor with this pregnancy too. I was in really bad pain, plus I was vomiting. My bag of water was green so the doctor was worried. I was running a slight fever. They started and Iv with antibiotics. I decided I could not handle the pain so asked for an epidural. I was against this procedure with the other two pregnancies but, wanted it with this one. At 4:54am my son was born. My doctor had brought in the neonatal doctors to check my son. Because of the water being green. My son was put on antibiotics too. I was so happy. My family was finally complete. I have to tell you with all the problems with my pregnancies I would do it over and over if I could.
