I wish I knew the answer, son by hhassell99 | Nov 22 '00 One of the most vivid memories I have is September 16, 1998 - the day my daughter died. I remember discovering her, calling 911, and the paramedics pronouncing her dead. Most of all, I remember my 2 1/2 year old son sitting on the couch, quiet,...Return to opinion

not knowing what to say (Reply to this comment)

I've read some of your reviews today.
I've so desperately wanted to post a comment on every one. But, words fail me. I don't know what to say -- or I don't know how to say it.
So, instead, I just let you know I've added you to my WOT.
I've dealt with grief. I've written Epinions about my parents' deaths, my grandmother's death, a friend's death and explaining it to our daughters. But I can't imagine the scope of your experience.
My wife had a miscarriage during her third pregnancy. The due date was September 17, and the child would have been 3 years old this year.
I think about it a lot.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I will read your other articles to learn more.
I like the way you are explaining things to your son.
My daughter died 9 1/2 years ago. She was our first so we always had to explain to our children but without them ever having met her.
My best to your family, from one Angel mom to another.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through this, but thank you for sharing what you've learned.
A teenage friend of my older kids committed suicide last year. I've been struggling to explain so much to my 5 year old since then. I never know when or where he will ask. I particularly like the paper bag/soul explanation. I think I'll use that with him the next time this comes up.

My son asks also (Reply to this comment)

We had a daughter who died and my son
has continued asking about it in different
and more comprehending ways as he gets
older. He's 7 now and still trying
to understand. I just keep answering.
